Overview of New Features
The iOS 18.2 beta brings several important improvements to the iPhone, focusing on more than just artificial intelligence features. While the combination of Siri with ChatGPT and the new emoji maker, Genmoji, are impressive, the update also makes big changes to how the phone works for users, especially when it comes to choosing which apps are used for certain tasks by default.
A big change in the iOS 18.2 beta is a new way to pick your favorite apps on iPhones. Before, you could only choose default email and web browser apps starting from iOS 14. But now, the new Default Apps page makes it easier by letting you pick your favorite apps from different types:
- Email: Select the app for composing new emails.
- Messaging: Choose the app for sending messages.
- Calling: Designate the app used for making phone calls.
- Call Filtering: Set a default app for call identification and filtering.
- Browser App: Choose which browser opens links and websites.
- Passwords & Codes: Decide which app manages AutoFill and verification codes.
- Contactless App: Select the app that activates when using NFC with contactless readers.
- Keyboards: Opt for either Apple\’s standard QWERTY keyboard or a third-party option.
The availability of these customization options may vary by country, with eight categories accessible in the U.S., while other regions may have fewer or additional options.
How to Set Your Default Apps
To change your default browser or any other app, do this:
Go to Settings on your iPhone.
